Without intermediaries: Metro Cash & Carry Ukraine’s own import provides 10% of chain’s turnover
At the same time, the company is going to further increase the goods’ share purchased directly from manufacturers and imported into Ukraine without the distributors’ participation.
This was announced by company’s commercial director Elena Vdovichenko at new product presentation of Metro Cash & Carry Ukraine’s own import – premium champagne by the French manufacturer Vranker-Pommery Monopole Group.
As the top-manager noted, goods purchased directly from manufacturers and imported into Ukraine without intermediaries, bring about 10% of the country’s revenue to the retailer. At the same time, only 4 years ago, this indicator was 4%, having increased by two and a half times during this time. Elena found it difficult to say the exact number of SKU, but clarified that Metro Cash & Carry Ukraine’s own import are present in all product categories, and goods make up in some of its more than 50%.
“First of all, we are talking about goods that are not produced in Ukraine and have no analogues – Elena Vdovichenko added. In such cases, our purchasing teams are establishing direct contacts with manufacturers in order to guarantee customers the quality goods’ maximum choice at the least possible prices.” The top-manager specifies that there are many non-food products, as well as food products: fruits, vegetables, fish, and so on among the Metro Cash & Carry Ukraine’s own import commodity categories. And the own import’s share reaches 60% among the “wine and champagne” category.
The active work is continuing on expanding the retailer’s partnership with the HoReCa segment customers in accordance with the company’s strategy. But at the same time, Metro Group’s own import products are available to both end users and business-partners who buy goods for sale in its outlets.
Recall that the German hypermarket chain Metro Cash & Carry entered the Ukrainian market in 2003. Now the company operates 23 classic Metro Cash & Carry wholesale trade centers in Kiev, Dnepr, Odessa, Kharkov, Lvov, Krivoy Rog, Poltava, Vinnitsa, Zaporozhye, Chernovtsy, Nikolayev, Rovno, Ivano-Frankovsk, Mariupol and Zhytomyr, as well as wholesale trade two stores “Beri-Vezi” in Ternopol and Lutsk. The company’s sales in Ukraine for the 2017/2018 fiscal year (October 2017 – September 2018) amounted to 523 million euros.
