MAPIC-2017 focus is: Food & Beverege
November 15-17, 2017 the largest European industry exhibition of the retail and development industry – MAPIC – will host in French Cannes. This year the main exhibition theme is the “Food and Beverage” segment development.
Every year the MAPIC organizers choose a new topic, which is paid special attention: top-speakers are invited, lectures, seminars and network are held, and a special exhibition zone is arranged. In 2016, the key topics were the effective use of both offline and online sales channels (o2o: online to offline), retailtainment and innovative technologies.
This year, the focus is on the Food & Beverege segment – “Food and Beverages”. The logic of the organizers is clear: every year the food courts square increases in modern shopping centers, and public catering operators, presented in the center – cafes and restaurants, fast food and healthy food – become an equally important “magnet” for visitors, like anchor tenants and retailers, working in the trade gallery. “Now there is no more relevant trend than the food hall development, – Didier Soilla from Time Out Market says. – It has a decisive influence on whether people will come again or leave the SEC.”
HELPFUL INFORMATION
MAPIC – the largest international exhibition dedicated to retail real estate.
In 2016, the exhibition was attended by more than 8,400 delegates, including 2,100 retailers, 2,500 developers and about 1,000 investors. During the exhibition more than 100 conferences devoted to the retail theme were held.
More than 700 exhibiting companies are located on 12,000 sq. squares, turning the exhibition pavilion into a place for acquaintances and contacts with all kinds of retail players – from shopping centers and outlet to department stores, leisure zones and city centers. The commercial real estate projects from around the world are represented in one place. Moreover, there are special thematic zones, along with innovative solutions and technologies that are designed to make shopping facilities more attractive.
Why is Food & Beverege so important not only for retail real estate developers, but also for retailers? According to the CBRE study, almost a third of visitors to shopping centers come there only for the sake of a food court. To a large extent, cafes and restaurants have turned shopping centers into an integral part of modern lifestyle. According to JLL, operators representing food formats over the past ten years have doubled the square they occupy in shopping centers. The square for the segment “Food and Beverages” in the SEC increased from 7 to 15%, and in the next few years this figure will reach 20%. Also, studies show that visitors who eat while visiting a shopping center stay there for an average of 27 minutes longer and spend 18% more money.
The main trends on which the organizers are concentrated and which are noted by almost all research and consulting companies, are: the food court development from the “fast food”-format to more complex concepts. Operators start offering a wider food choice – from simple products, street-food dishes through quality sandwiches: traditional cuisine for one country or another, healthy food, new experimental formats.
The exhibition program includes a series of conferences dedicated to the segment Food & Beverage evolution, new exclusive concepts presentation. For the first time in history, MAPIC will be equipped with a tasting zone where visitors can try the dishes of various operators, including non-standard formats.
More than 400 companies working in Food & Beverage already registered to participate in conferences and seminars. The market leaders – Delifrance, Old Wild West; Vapiano, Caffa Pascucci and many others – are among its. The general session partner is JLL.
