Koton will open two stores in Ukraine in May, and by 2020 the chain will grow to 15 objects
The Turkish retailer announced plans for the chain development in Ukraine until 2020: the first two stores will open in May in the Kiev SEC Lavina Mall and Sky Mall.
Alper Akin, Head of development and construction department Koton told during the speech at the session “International experience in the Ukrainian market realities” at RETAIL & DEVELOPMENT BUSINESS EXPO 2018 how the retail of the Turkish retailer will develop.
“We chose Ukraine because our target audience is here — an inferior, solvent, active population” — Alper Akin explained. In 2018, the company will open two stores in Kiev — one, with 1,555 sq.m. square in the shopping and entertainment center Lavina Mall, the second — in the SEC Sky Mall. Next year it is planned to develop in other cities — Odessa, Lvov, Kharkov, Dnepr, Zaporozhye. By 2020, the stores chain should grow to more than 15 points, according to the company’s plan.
The Turkish retailer Koton started out as a small store with 20 sq .m. square in Istanbul in 1988. In 1995, the company launched its own production and continued to actively develop the chain. In 2000, there were 10 stores, in 2002 the company began to open trade points in different countries — Russia, the Middle East, and in other regions.
In 2012, the chain had 287 stores, and now — more than 500 stores in 3 continents in 27 countries. Ukraine will become the 28th country for the brand. The Turkish retailer plans by 2023 to become the leading international brand of youth fashion clothing with the most modern collections represented on all five continents.
Each year, the retailer produces 30,000 units of new goods — 50 collections per year. The target audience of the company is women from 25 to 35 years, interested in fashion. Under the Ole brand, Koton produces collections for a youth audience of 15 to 25 years. In addition to women’s collections, the brand also produces a man’s line — casual man and business man, as well as children’s collections.
As Alper Akin said, the average Koton store occupies 1,500 sq. m, and is located in shopping centers or on the main streets of major cities.
