Retail & Development Business Awards is the Ukrainian Retail Association’ annual project, designed to identify the most successful retail and development spheres’ companies in the country. The project consists of two parts: research and awarding of the best retail companies – “Retailer of the Year”, awarding of the best online-stores in the country – “Best Retailers in e-commerce” and awarding of the best shopping and entertainment centers – “Best SEC” / Shopping Center Awards.
The rating of the Best Companies in the Retail sphere within the project “Retailer of the Year” framework is based on the market players’ voting, as well as on the Expert Council’ assessment, which includes retail, development and consulting’ representatives.
The rating of the Best Retailers in e-commerce is formed on four criteria basis – “Attendance”, “Unique users’ number”, “Refusals’ number”, “Subscribers in social chains’ number” – data about which are obtained from open sources.
The rating of the Best SEC/Shopping Center Awards is formed on the Expert Council assessment’ basis and the market participants’ voting.
Assessment’ form:
- Retailer of the Year and Best SEC / Shopping Center Awards – the Expert Council evaluates nominees by electronic questionnaires according to specified criteria. The assessment is made in electronic form online, indicating the name and company. Anonymous, filled out with errors or not filled out questionnaires are not taken into account during the votes’ counting. A member of the Expert Council cannot evaluate the company where he works. If an expert has voted for such a company, these estimates are not taken into account when calculating the results.
Market participants (open voting) are evaluated according to a simplified system: giving each of the nominees a rating from 1 to 5, where 1 is the lowest rating and 5 is the highest. Evaluation is made in electronic form online using special software with the voter’ identification by e-mail and confirmation.
The Expert Council’ votes have more weight than the market participants’ votes when counting. The coefficient is 51% for the Expert Council and 49% for the market participants’ voting.
- The Best Retailer in e-commerce – the Ukrainian Retail Association’ staff analyzes and evaluates nominees by 4 criteria (see Appendix 4). The criteria “Attendance”, “Unique users’ number”, “Refusals’ number” have 30% coefficient, the criterion “Subscribers’ number in social chains” – 10%.
- Person of the Year in Retail, Person of the Year in e-commerce and Person of the Year in Development – the Expert Council’ members indicate 5 people who had, in their opinion, the greatest influence on the development of Ukrainian retail / online trading / development during from 07/01/18 to 06/30/19 when filling out the established form questionnaire. 5 points are awarded for the 1st place, – 4 points for the 2nd and so on. Five candidates with the highest points’ number get to the final, which will be held during the Retail & Development Business Awards: the event’ participants choose the winner with the interactive voting’ help. Votes’ counting
Retailer of the Year
Votes’ counting in each nomination is carried out separately according to the voting’ results by the Expert Council and market participants. The votes’ counting in each of the nominations is as follows:
º If the respondent did not put down a rating during voting, it is equal to 0 by default, and it is not taken into account during the votes’ counting.
º All points scored by the company are summed up, each of the criteria has the same value, and is divided by the number of criteria (5) (note: this stage is skipped in the case with voting by market participants).
º The resulting sum is divided by the voters’ number.
º The resulting average score is considered an intermediate nominee assessment.
The final assessment is obtained by adding the intermediate assessments of the Expert Council and market participants taking into account the different values of voting according to the formula:
F = (I1 * 51%) + (I2 * 49%),
where F is the Final nominee’ assessment, I1 is the Interim assessment of the Expert Council, I2 – Interim assessment of market participants. The scores are rounded up to two decimal places on the principle: 0.0051 and more – in a big direction, 0.005 and less – in a smaller one.
The retail chain, which has scored the most points in the final grade in its nomination is the nomination’ winner. The third and, if necessary, the fourth digit after the decimal point in the final grade takes into account with equal points in this case. The chain, in case of points’ equality, which received higher scores according to the voting’ results by the Expert Council is declared the winner. All companies, in case of points’ equality and by this criterion, that score the highest possible points’ number, with the above indicators being equal, are declared the winners.
Best SEC / Shopping Center Awards
Votes’ counting in each nomination is carried out separately according to the voting’ results by the Expert Council and market participants. The criteria by which experts evaluate the SEC are grouped into 4 groups: Traffic, Engineering, Tenants and Marketing. Each group has its own coefficient in assessing: Traffic and Tenants – at 35% each, Engineering and Marketing – at 15% each, which is taken into account when calculating the interim assessment.
The votes’ counting in each of the nominations takes place in each of the votes as follows:
º If the respondent did not put down during voting a rating, it is equal to 0 by default, and is not taken into account during the votes’ counting.
º Scored by the company for each group of criteria* points are summarized and divided by the voters’ number.
º The resulting average score for each of the groups of criteria is multiplied by the group’ coefficient*.
º The resulting total for groups is summarized. The formula for calculating is:
I = (T*35%) + (A*35%) + (E1*15%) + (M*15%),
where I is an Interim assessment, T is the Traffic criteria group, A is the Tenants criteria group, E1 – the Engineering criteria group, M – the Marketing criteria group*.
* note: these stages are skipped in the case of market participants’ voting
The resulting sum is an intermediate estimate for scoring.
The final assessment is obtained by adding the intermediate assessments of the Expert Council and market participants taking into account the different values of voting according to the formula:
F = (I1 * 51%) + (I2 * 49%),
where F is the Final nominee’ assessment, I1 is the Interim assessment of the Expert Council, I2 – Interim assessment of market participants. The scores are rounded up to two decimal places on the principle: 0.0051 and more – in a big direction, 0.005 and less – in a smaller one.
The SEC, which has scored the most points in the final grade in its nomination, is the nomination’ winner. The third and, if necessary, the fourth digit after the decimal point in the final grade takes into account with equal points in this case. The chain, in case of equal points, which received higher scores according to the voting’ results by the Expert Council is declared the winner. All companies, in case of points’ equality and by this criterion, that score the highest possible points’ number, with the above indicators being equal, are declared the winners.
Person of the Year in Retail, Person of the Year in e-commerce, and Person of the Year in Development
Five candidates who scored the highest points according to the Expert Council voting’ results, get into the final vote, which will be held during the Retail & Development Business Awards: the event’ participants choose the winner by interactive voting. The person who received the highest average score in the voting is the winner. The person who has received more high marks (5) with equal points is the winner. All nominees, in case of points’ equality and by this criterion, who received the highest same average score and received the same number of top-marks, are declared the winners.
The Best Retailer in e-commerce
Employees of the Ukrainian Retail Association rank the nominees in each nomination by indicators in each of the criteria after analyzing data from open sources. The company with the highest rate gets the maximum result for this criterion (the maximum result is 30% for the criteria “Attendance”, “Unique users”, “Refusals’ number”, 10% – for the criterion “Subscribers’ number in social chains”). The rest gets the result proportional to its indicator relative to the leader. The resulting total for groups is summarized. The calculation formula is:
F = A + U + R + S,
where F is the Final score, A is the criterion for Attendance, U is the criterion for Unique users’ number, R is the criterion for Refusals’ number, S is the criterion for Subscribers’ number in social chains. The company with the most points in the final grade in its nomination is the winner. The third and, if necessary, the fourth digit after the decimal point in the final grade takes into account with equal points in this case. The company with the highest number of maximum points is declared the winner in case of this indicator equality. If and these indicators are equal, both teams are declared the winners.
