IKEA intends to open the first store in Kiev within two years
The Swedish chain of furniture and household goods stores IKEA is studying the Ukrainian market and intends to open the first facility in Kiev within two years, it says in an official company statement.
“At the moment, IKEA is looking for the most acceptable business model, which would allow the plan’s implementation in Kiev within the next one or two years. The decision on further steps will be taken based on market research results and Ukrainian consumer’s preferences”, — it says in the document which is quoted by Interfax-Ukraine.
According to its, IKEA South-Eastern Europe, which is the ngka Holding B.V. part, will be dealt the chain development in Ukraine. The company is engaged in retail business in Croatia, Serbia, Romania and Slovenia. “We are going to Ukraine with a vision how to improve many people daily lives for the better. Our company will present in Ukraine the affordable home products wide range to respond the high demand on the consumer’s part”, — the IKEA South-East Europe sales manager Stefan Vanoverbeke is quoted in the report.
Recall that earlier Interfax-Ukraine reported with the reference to the head of the PJSC Mandarin Plaza board Alexander Chernitsky that IKEA may become the tenant of the largest in the country shopping and entertainment center Yuzhnyi, the construction of which was planned for the 2017 end in the Kiev Holosiivskyi district.
In the summer of this year, the Swedish chain of furniture and household goods stores confirmed that it really plans to enter the Ukrainian market, but it did not mention the exact date. As it was said in the Swedish retailer answer to the request of Gromadsky, the company intended to enter the Ukrainian market on a franchise.
It was also reported that company is negotiating the production facilities location in the Lvov region territory.
