Turkish retailer Koton, numbering about 500 outlets in more than 25 countries, decided to open the first store in Ukraine.

Julia Vanchenko, finance director SEC Sky Mall, which will host the store Koton, confirmed relevant RAU information. The Turkish clothing retailer leased 1557 sq. m on the mall first floor to open the store. Five stores previously housed at this location, including JYSK, Butlers, Springfield and Love Republic, which now have to move to another places in the SEC. The Koton store work beginning is scheduled for April-May 2018.

Note that the trademark Koton was established in 1988 and began its activity with tailoring small clothing batches for export. Now Koton is not only a well-known brand throughout Europe, but also is a large store’s chain that sells its own products. As of September last year, the chain Koton had about 300 stores in Turkey and almost 200 outlets outside.

The Turkish brand works in the Fast Fashion segment, which involves frequent collection’s changes and, as a rule, clothes at affordable prices. The most famous retail chains working on such a model are Zara, H & M and Mango.

As for the brand Koton, it annually produces about 50 new collections with a total model’s number up to 10,000 units. The brand produces men’s and women’s clothing, which is mainly targeted at young people. It is in the range of products: knitwear, shirts, blouses, jeans, trousers, skirts, dresses, T-shirts, sweatshirts, sweaters, jackets, shoes, bags and bijouterie.

Recall, this is not the first Turkish retailer, announced plans to enter the Ukrainian market in 2018. Earlier it became known, that in this year spring Turkish store DeFacto will open its first store in Ukraine in the SEC Riviera in Odessa. Also it should be noted that since 2013 another Turkish clothing brand has been successfully operating in the country, developing retail outlets of the “department store” format – LC Waikiki. By spring of 2018, the retailer chain will grow to 27 retail sites, and by 2023 the brand plans to unite 60 stores in Ukraine.

How actively Koton will develop in the country is still unknown. However, the company has been actively expanding the chain in other CIS countries in recent years. In particular, in 2017, the retailer entered the Belarusian market by opening the first department store with the square about 2,000 sq. m in the shopping and entertainment center Galleria Minsk. The company manages 40 stores in the Russian market, and by 2020 plans to expand the chain to 150 outlets. There, the company develops in cities with a population of more than 500,000 people, but it also considers the possibility of reaching cities with a population of 250,000. With regard to the store’s format, the retailer basically opens outlets with square about 1,500 sq. m, although the individual brand store’s size exceeds 4,000 sq. m.
